Talk on William Blake

William Blake said of his work, "Tho' I call them Mine I know they are not Mine" - its an important sentiment when thinking about the relevance of his work to today. In the context of Blake as the original authorial illustrator, makes me think the singular vision thing, when it works best, is placed out into the world in a way that it can be disseminated devoured its 'message' allowing itself to appear to be changed, misunderstood or  not understood. Something of the original intent always remains however, the tide always turns and reveals the the thing that really mattered about the work. This is what happened with blake despite his limited readership in his time. Although Jason Whittaker made it clear that this limited readership did not get in the way of a sort of infamy in his lifetime. A notoriety for being the extremely eccentric or talented or both or just a bit strange, whatever it was, people did know about him.

He showed us some of blake's later stuff that I've never seen before, such as this work for the book of job:

I really like how the the text is laid out in the top of the top image.
